Will Spelling

I was looking over W's shoulder the other day when he was writting the word car. It was spelled c-o-r. I thought it was a penmanship problem and that he had forgotten to put the line on the side of his "o". I asked him... "Will, what letter is that suppose to be?" Him: "an O" Me:What word are you trying to spell? him:Car Me: And is that how you spell car? Him: yes ma'am. Me: Listen, Will.......(saying it very slowly) CAR. Is that what you've spelled? Him: yes ma'am. Me:Are you sure about that? him: yes ma'am. Me:I think you should look at that again...Are you SURE that's how you spell car? (again, very slowly) Him, very earnestly and confident: Yes Ma'am, they tried to trick me in that book over there by putting an "a" in the middle of the word, but I KNOW it's an "o" because it has the "aahh" sound. Me: Will, "that book over there" is your spelling book. They will not try to trick you, it is there to teach you how to spell correctly....WOW, and I thought FD couldn't be told anything! At least she's never questioned the validity of published work! Wish me luck, I will need it with that boy! On the same but different note, he read his first library (non HOP) book today...it was a Dr. Suess. "GO Dog Go!" I was very proud of him. There were a lot of words and letter combinations he hadn't had before, and he did a good job. It is a much longer book than you think, at first.
It was overcast today and the air was cooler than the water......yaayy, solar power, just in time!
