It rained for Will and Gracie's game then cleared for Faith's. The rain was less miserable.
BRING IT!
Ah ha, now I get it. What happened to just "going for the ball?"
All three children had their first soccer games in Melbourne this morning. It was Grace's first ever. For a little girl that bugged us to play for 2.5 solid years, I have to say her performance was less than enthusiastic.
Faith moved up to the league that uses a goalie. She is the only girl on her team this year and not happy about it, but today she scored the first (and only) goal until someone else scored right before it ended. This seemed to make her feel better about the situation. She is in the 6-8 age catagory and I gather not the only 6 year old on the team that is used to dominating the game. I heard more than one complaint from her teamates to their parents that they hadn't scored enough. One little boy that did end up scoring at the end was still mad because he didn't score "a bunch of goals." It's tough going back to being the little fish in the big pond. Oh, Richard yelled at Faith for five minutes to "play defense" before she came to the sideline. When she got there, I gave her water, did her hands and asked her if she knew what defense was. Exactly as I suspected, that part had not been explained to her! So, Mommy explained what the word meant and how to play it. Things seemed to make a little more sense to her after that:)
As for Will, my sweet boy. Well, what can I say about him.... He's still the prettiest and least motivated boy on the team. I think he's going to enjoy tball much more than soccer. One of the reasons he's never played before is because I knew he would. I've been saying for years that boy is just too lazy to run an entire game.
so, here are some pictures. If you are on facebook, these and more are all in an album titled "soccer" on my wall.
I told you, DEFENSE!....."yes sir"
What in the hell does that mean?
Ah ha, now I get it. What happened to just "going for the ball?"
