School update (bragging)

We've been busy rededicating ourselves to our studies this week. I went to a park this morning to meet up with the Brevard Co. HS group. We were the only ones that showed. We had record low temps last night, so I warned the kids ahead of time that might be what would happen. Another family did show that we met, though. They just moved here from Columbus, GA, had a little girl, almost 5 and a little boy that looked to be a little younger than G. Anyway, they just moved to Suntree (renting while house hunting) from GA and the dad sells medical supplies in basically the same territory as R travels. ...Different products, not competitors. Small world, huh? I was so proud of F, she went right up and introduced herself, they played and when the little girl was leaving, she told her it was nice meeting her. We've been really working on her painfully shy nature lately. Maybe some of it is finally paying off.

Will is doing very welll with his reading. His concentration still isn't what I'm used to working with.............I know, I know, don't compare them.........but he is doing well...........slowly but steadily. He is up to 5 books with his HOP program. I finally realized that he does much better first thing in the AM, so I try to catch him then. We also work with his numbers 1-100. I am going to order his first spelling book this afternoon. .....oops, maybe we should work a little more on handwritting before I start throwing written spelling work at him. I guess he reallly is doing very well for his age, and with the handicap of the testosterone, is remarkable:) G is working diligently with her ABC's. She came up to me two nights ago and said "There are too many books in here that I can't read!" She was so indignent, like there were some that she COULD read, we just didn't own them. I explained that that was the reason we did ABC's and that she could start trying soon. She really is pretty amazing. I lay out all the cards and ask her to give me a specific letter. When she picks it up, she has to tell me the sound and a word that starts with that letter. She can do that with almost all of the upper case; we haven't started lowercase yet. I don't remember exactly, since that time is all such a blur, but I think that puts her about on track with F. Now F... As I type this, I am giving her the last spelling test for the second grade. It's Homonyms......hole, whole, dear, deer, right, write. etc. She already knew them all when we got to this lesson. I'm not sure how except from just all the reading that she does (the worst punishment you can dole out to her these days is to take away her reading time when she goes to bed)and asking here and there for some clarification. I know we've never sat down and had a discussion on the subject. She's over half way through first grade language, chpt12 in first g history, and somewhere around the end of second grade math. (She's gotten into multiplication) I picked out a sciene program that is for age ranges 5-8 and I am going to start her and W together on that. Also, she knows more geography than most adults...sadly that doesn't take much these days. Now that I think about it, W may know more than most adults:) G is so funny. She is the only two year old that goes around discussing ancient history in the middle of Target. F insists that if she is going to go around saying their names that she must know who they are.......therefore, she goes around yelling Shamshi-Adaad- ancient Assyrian ruler.....Hammarabi-ancient Babylonian ruler! The only thing funnier is to see the looks that we get from fellow shoppers!

Went to Old Navy yesterday because W needed jeans and khaki pants and it finally occured to me that it would be a good place to find some decent, plain, girl LS and ss tshirts. (see earlier post) So, if you are having the same problem with your little girls, you can go there....they do still have the "stylish" (trash) but you can find some cute, decent things there too.

Must go now, the natives are getting restless........
